After another goalless first half which had been evenly contested at a very hectic and pulsating pace with both defences looking resolute and strong, it seemed destined for a stalemate in this Grays Cup first round tie.
In the second half with chances few and far between it came as no surprise that the opening goal came from the penalty spot when Brad McKay was up-ended by a clumsy tackle in the box. Lee Carr made no mistake with the spot kick.
Hornsea unleashed renewed attacks to get back into the game but the Malet defence stood firm securing only their second clean sheet of the season. Simon Spencer returning after knee surgery came off the bench and immediately made an impact when breaking through to give a perfect cross for 17 year old Luke Beeston to crash home. He then scored himself to put the game beyond Hornsea’s reach in a good Malet team performance against a good Hornsea team that played some neat fast football.
